Noah, MD is a board certified sleep medicine specialist and Medical Director of the Sleep Centers of Murfreesboro, accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). He is also the medical director of an Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) and a Behavioral Sleep Medicine Fellowship program. His clinical interests in sleep medicine are principally in outcomes. which translates to compliance in positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Dr. Noah developed protocols for PAP\u00a0therapy administration using cognitive behavioral therapy combined with web-based patient monitoring which\u00a0achieved objectively-measured compliance rates over 80%. He has completed a study determining the incidence of OSA in collegiate football players. He is currently looking at the use of home screening in a primary care practice setting.\u00a0Dr. Noah attended medical school as well as completed his internal medicine residency and chief residency at the University of\u00a0Tennessee. He completed his pulmonary fellowship at the University of Utah where he was a Parker B. Hoelscher received his bachelor&#8217;s degree from the University of Minnesota Morris in 1979 and his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Memphis Slale University in 1984. Following his internship al Duke University Medical Center, Dr. Hoelscher did a 2-year post-doctoral fellowship with the sleep disorders center at Duke. He served on the Duke faculty as an assistant professor from 1986-1988. He then worked as Assistant Director of the sleep disorders center at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, VA from 1988-1992. During his academic career, Dr. Hoelscher had the opportunity to work with some of the leading researchers in sleep disorders, including Dr. Ken Lichstein at Memphis State University, Dr. Jack Edinger at Duke University\u00a0Medical Center, and Dr. J. Catesby Ware at Eastern Virginia Medical School. During these years, Dr. Hoelscher published over 20 journal articles and book chapters, gave frequent talks at national sleep meetings, and organized a symposium on insomnia at the APSS meeting in Minneapolis. He served as a site visitor for accreditation of sleep\u00a0disorders center for a 5 year period for the American Sleep Disorders Assoc ation. He has been board certified by the\u00a0American Board of Sleep Medicine since 1987.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hoelscher moved to Murfreesboro, TN in 1994 to join Dr. William Noah as they started the first sleep disorders center in Rutherford County at Middle Tennessee Medical Center. Under their direction, the sleep disorders center at MTMC was accredited in 1996 and grew from an average of 300 sleep studies per year to more than 1200, Drs. Hoelscher and Noah founded the Sleep Center at StoneCrest in 2004 (accredited in 2005) and the Sleep Center of Murfreesboro in 2006. He completed his prerequisite classes for nursing at MTSU before transferring to Chattanooga State in 1991 where he studied Emergency Management and became a licensed paramedic. Allen has worked in Rutherford County as a paramedic for seven years and completed his Associates degree in Respiratory therapy. Over the past 20 years Allen has worked closely with Dr. Noah. The last 12 of those years have been spent at the Sleep Center of Middle Tennessee as a Physician Extender. With her husband, Shawn, she has two beautiful children Vanessa and Justin. When not helping improve the quality of people\u2019s lives, Carmen enjoys water skiing and hiking.
