Hello! My name is Aleyah Chrystak. I am from Henderson, a small town in the West Tennessee area. I came to Middle Tennessee State University, partly because I wanted to get out of my town and because it seemed like a great school to attend. I am currently a senior and will be graduating in December 2019 with my B.S. in Interactive Media. I also have minors in Marketing and Human Sciences.
While interning with Navigation Advertising, I have written copy for different websites, conducted research, and created social media posts. Writing copy and creating social media posts were two things I was afraid of, but they ended up being somewhat easy. I have learned some about Search Engine Optimization, such as keywords and how many characters should go on certain pages. SEO was something I had heard of but wasn’t sure about until I began my internship. I hope to gain more experience with SEO, along with other things. =
This semester is both easy and difficult, schedule-wise. I only have two classes that I have to go to on Tuesdays and Thursdays, which are not too demanding. I intern at Navigation on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. I also have two other jobs; one on campus and one at Dollar General, both on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. I didn’t think I would be able to handle this schedule at first because there are so many responsibilities, but everything is working out.
The office has a nice environment. It is pretty laid back and the employees seem to enjoy working here. I like joining in on the meetings because I see how others work and what they are working on. In my future career, I am sure we will have meetings similar to the ones at Navigation, so this is good preparation for the future.
I have an internship because it is required for my major, but internships also give you real world experience and I am learning things that I did not learn in my classes. I am grateful that I got this opportunity to intern at Navigation Advertising because I feel that it will help me ease into the professional world post-graduation.
